Of 70 one percent of Americans in 2021 travel poll

So about 40% have been to a country in Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, or South America.

I’m going to hazard a guess that the majority of these were to:

The vast majority of Americans (no to asia oceania etc)

Canada

Mexico

Afghanistan

Iraq

Wherever a cruise ship happened to go to port.

The first two require no passport because we share a border and are friendly. It may be that they are in the wrong order.

Numbers 3 and 4 generally required no passport for (ahem) entirely other reasons.

My view may be skewed by personal experience. But I’d put money on it if

Only one-third of Americans have a valid US passport | YouGov

Only a third of American adults say they have a valid and unexpired U.S. passport (37%) – about the same percentage as those who have never had a passport at all (38%).

Percentage Of Americans Who Never Traveled Beyond The State Where They Were Born? A Surprise

Lea LaneContributor

When you hear some of the comments Americans make about geography or about other countries do you ever wonder how many of them have ever traveled?

Research of 2,000 Americans across the country (a good statistical sample) in a new study conducted by market researchers OnePoll, and commissioned by travel luggage provider Victorinox, explored the nation’s travel experiences and the things that seem to stop people from exploring more.

The results are pretty amazing, and perhaps explain the gaps of knowledge many Americans seem to have of the world:

-- Eleven percent of survey respondents have never traveled outside of the state where they were born.

-- Over half of those surveyed (54 percent) say they’ve visited 10 states or fewer.

-- As many as 13 percent say they have never flown in an airplane.

-- Forty percent of those questioned said they’ve never left the country.

-- Over half of respondents have never owned a passport. (For years U.S. citizens did not need one to travel to Mexico, Canada and on many cruises, which may clarify the previous stat.)

But this lack of travel is not always because people don't want to. Most of those surveyed expressed a desire to travel, with 85 percent saying they like to experience new things, and nearly 60 percent saying they have a list of places in mind they’d like to see.

Roughly 40% of Americans have passports. That doesn’t mean they’ve all been to Europe. So less than 40%.

I was born there so I got an early start.

42%.

Predicting the future doesn’t usually work but it seems likely that at least 90% of all Americans have never been to those places

According to a survey conducted by the U.S.

Department of Commerce in 2019, approximately 36% of Americans have travelled abroad at least once in their lifetime.

This number is expected to increase as more people become aware of the benefits and opportunities that come with travelling internationally.

For those who haven't yet had the chance to explore other countries, there's no better time than now!

With so many amazing places around the world just waiting for you to discover them, why not take advantage and start planning your next international adventure?

More than 75 percent of American respondents say they will keep traveling in 2020, according to a new survey from LuggageHero

nternational travel interest has also grown to a year-to-date high. Currently, 31% of Americans saying they are more interested in traveling outside the U.S. than domestically (a 6-point increase compared to February 2022). Additionally, 34% say they are likely to travel outside the U.S. in the next 12 months (a 7-point increase compared to April 2022). The top international regions Americans are most likely to visit in the near future are Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.
